What a Career Coach Can Offer You

It is not uncommon for a job to become routine and lose the excitement it once held. When you reach a crossroad in your life, it is useful to have a mentor to lead you down the path less traveled, by helping you create stretch goals. Life can sometimes get too comfortable and in the process we miss the opportunity to achieve our dreams. The old saying if it ain't broke don't fix it, is a fallacy. Actually status quo needs to be fixed or you slowly slip into second place. This same dynamic happens with careers also. Sometimes a good friend, mentor, or career coach pushes us out of our comfort zone as they see something in us we may not see ourselves. Cathy moved to Philadelphia and bought a house. She has really good taste and loved her house. It was really nice once she had fixed it up and decorated it. A year later her realtor came to her and asked if she could show her home to a client as it sounded just like what this couple was looking for and it would help her to have them see Cathy’s place and visualize what their dream house could look like. The couple took a tour loved Cathy’s house so much, they offered her 20% more than she paid for it a year ago! Cathy had no interest in moving, but she got to thinking what she could do with that 20%. So she did it. Recruiters use a similar process in looking for candidates for high-powered jobs. They do not look for people who are job hunting, but for people who are highly successful and happy in their current jobs. Then they try to entice them to look at an incredible new opportunity. What often holds people back in their careers is thinking too many steps ahead with what ifs. Like Cathy’s realtor suggested, you should just explore other career opportunities, and not paralyze yourself by thinking about the what ifs. My goal as a career coach is to give people the courage and emotional support to begin to explore other opportunities. You can worry about the next steps when you get there. I help people to figure out what they are truly passionate about, get their resume in order, practice answering interview questions, think about what they want to ask a potential employer, and go out with an open mind and listen. You will either find a new job you LOVE, or realize how much you love your current job, but maybe need to approach things differently. There’s an old Buddhist saying: When the student is ready the teacher will appear. I feel the similarly about careers. When you are read, the perfect job opportunity will appear. A good career coach can help you to do that. Dr. Grossman offers individualized 1:1 Career Coaching as a process to identify your strengths, passion, and future career options. Testimonial

A good mentor asks you the questions you can’t ask yourself. It’s too easy to make excuses for why you are not making more progress toward achieving what you are passionate about in life. Michael has a way of holding you accountable in a nice way. I never left a coaching session with him without a new set of tasks oriented to achieving the results I want for myself.
